These were with the view to examine the spatial distribution of public primary schools and identify accessibility levels of different settlements to primary school in the area in relation to acceptable (UNESCO) standards. The study used both primary and secondary data. Primary data were collected through questionnaire administration and global positioning system (GPS) in Atakunmosa West Local Government area of Osun state. Stratified sampling procedure was used to select 50 percent of public primary schools for questionnaire administration. This gave a sample size of 24 public primary schools. In each of the sampled school, 10 percent of the total student enrolments were selected for administration of questionnaire through systematic random sampling procedure. Using class attendance list of the sampled schools, an estimate of 300 students were sampled. Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver was used to obtain geographic coordinates of public primary schools in the study area. The secondary data were the administrative map and recent SPOT 5 imagery of the study area from where land use types, road networks and information about the public schools were extracted using GIS techniques. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics and GIS techniques. The school – accessibility model for the study area was established using the UNESCO standard of 2km walking distance to school. The study showed that spatial distribution pattern of public primary schools in Atakunmosa West Local Government Area were clustered (Nearest Neighbour Ratio = 0.71). Different distributional pattern was revealed at ward level. Osu 2 and Isaobi wards have random pattern; Ibodi, Ifewara, Epe and Muroko had clustered pattern while Osu 1, Osu 3 and Okebode exhibited dispersed pattern. Findings on accessibility levels showed that 18.7% of the settlements have high access to primary school while 81.3% of the settlements have relatively low accessibility. At 1000 metres, 30.8% settlements falls within the moderate accessibility level while 69.2% settlements have low accessibility level. At 2000 metres, 58.9% of the settlements have low accessibility level while 41.1% have highly low accessibility level. The study concluded that accessibility levels of different settlements to primary school in the study area were within the acceptable (UNESCO) standards. 2023-05-13T16:28:56Z 2023-05-13T16:28:56Z 2015 Thesis Sule,A.K (2015).
