Ogunsuyi, Olalekan Olasunkanmi Small and medium-sized enterprises Terminal services Point of sale Organisation xiii,125p This study examined the extent to which point of sale terminal services (PoS) were used among small and medium-sized entreprises (SMEs) in Lagos State, Nigeria, and evaluated the level of efficiency of the PoS terminals used by the SMEs. It also determined the challenges faced by the SMEs and analyzed the effect of PoS terminal usage on the performance of the SMEs. These were with a view to providing information on the extent to which PoS terminal service usage enhances performance of SMEs in Lagos State, Nigeria. Primary data was used for the study. A structured questionnaire was used to elicit information on point of sales terminal services, extent of usage, factors influencing its efficiency in the organisations, challenges faced by the SMEs in its use, and its effect on the performance of the SMEs. A two-staged sampling technique was adopted to select 400 out of 69,865 SMEs in the study area. Four zones in Lagos State (Ikeja, Yaba, Badagry & Lagos Island) was purposively selected as target areas due to their high concentration of PoS terminals. 100 SMEs in each of the four zones were sampled totaling 400 SMEs. From each of SME, the personnel in-charge of PoS operation or the manager was selected, which gave a sample size of 400 respondents. The choice of the respondents was informed by the fact that they had adequate knowledge of the subject matter. These challenges constitutes great hindrance to the adoption and usage of PoS terminals among the SMEs.
