This was with a view to providing information on the level of motivation of hospital pharmacists in Osun State. The study was a cross sectional survey of 87 out of 110 practicing pharmacists in secondary and tertiary hospitals in Osun State. Primary data were employed for the study. The instrument was a set of semi-structured questionnaire that comprised three main sections. The first section consisted of thirty three items that elicited information on factors influencing motivation of the respondents. The items were made of statements on a Likert-type scale of importance with five alternative responses of ‘Undecided’ (0), ‘Not important’ (1), ‘Slightly important’ (2), ‘Important’ (3), and ‘Very important’ (4) and were adapted from standardised instrument in literature. The thirty three items were reduced to eight constructs for purpose of analysis. The second and third sections had items made of statements on a Likert-type scale of agreement with five alternative responses of ‘Undecided’ (0), ‘Strongly disagree’ (1), ‘Disagree’ (2), ‘Agree’ (3), and ‘Strongly agree’ (4) to address the second and third objectives. Collected data were analysed with descriptive statistics such as frequencies, percentages, means and weighted averages while inferential statistics including Spearman’s rank correlation and multiple regression at 5% level of significance were employed in determining relationships among the variables. The results showed that job motivation significantly (p < 0.05) correlated with having the tools and resources to do work; with instructing or training other employees; with understanding the vision of the hospital; with retirement plans; with salary and raises and with working on one task at a time. The results of correlation analysis of job motivation with the constructs show that job motivation significantly (p < 0.05) correlated with earning and benefits; with task orientation and with mission orientation. However, retirement plans and mission orientation were significant (p < 0.05) predictors of job motivation. Over half (53.8%) of the pharmacists surveyed had low or no satisfaction with their jobs. There was a moderately strong positive correlation (r = .618) between job motivation and work context, with work context accounting for 51.3% of the variation in job motivation {F (1, 89) = 93.68, p = .00}.
