Sumario:Cultivation of industrial crops as an import substitution device is one of the received strategies for achieving rapid economic development in developing countries. This study reports the evidence of an empirical study on Kenaf project carried out in three Local Government Areas of Oyo State during 1995 and 1996. It examined the organisational structure of the project, why farmers took initial interest, reasons for its failure and what can be done to reactivate the cultivation of the crop.
